The Impact of Stepping Out

Could your daily light exposure impact the state of your nervous system function and ultimately your health?

Full spectrum sunlight, even on a cloudy day is a powerful influence on the health of your circadian rhythm and this flows through to the balance of the nervous system.

The opposite effect to this is unnatural light from LED sources like phones, computers, TV’s and indoor lights, especially after dark. Non native light exposure disrupts natural circadian rhythm and dis-regulates nervous system balance, which flows onto impacting health, creating illness.

The autonomic nervous system has two sides; the sympathetic nervous system is for survival, it is the fight or flight response to help you avoid/overcome danger. When a person spends too much time engaged in this higScreenshot 2025-09-23 at 9.23.34 amh stressed, high adrenaline and cortisol state the body will not be able to undergo tissue and cell maintenance, repair or healing. Eventually health goes down and symptoms, sickness and illness arise and take hold.

The other side of the autonomic nervous system is the parasympathetic nervous system. Its role is rest, digest and repair. This is where cellular function is optimised for long term health. The natural express of an engaged parasympathetic nervous system is health and wellbeing. Daily outdoor time is a powerful stimulation to engage this side of the autonomic nervous system, while high non native light exposure triggers the activation of the fight or flight survival side.

Science is showing more clearly that for nervous system regulation and better health outcomes we all may need to get a better indoor/outdoor balance between artificial light verses natural full spectrum light from the sun.

Is it time to step outside more often each day to promote better nervous system balance and ultimately allow your health to shine?
